A school district in Utah will not allow a new high school to use "Cougars" as a mascot because of its connotation in popular culture. The Canyons School District Superintendent says some see the word cougar as carrying a "negative double ententre" since the term can refer to women in their 40's who have sex with younger men. At least three schools in Utah, including Brigham Young University, use cougar as a mascot. The new school will use "Chargers" as a mascot despite a poll of students where a quarter of them say they preferred cougar.
