Corps to hold public meeting for levee plans
GONZALES - The Corps of Engineers scheduled a meeting in Ascension Parish this week to get public comments from residents about plans to update levee protections in the southwest portion of the state.
The Corps will take public comments during the meeting about plans to update the levee system. Their current plan, called Alternative C, would provide protection to St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes, but leaves out Ascension and St. James Parish.
Last month the parish council recommended another plan, which called for water to be funneled through the parish pumping station.
Public meetings for the plan have already been held in St. James and St. John the Baptist parishes. The Corps is also taking written comments about the plan until Oct. 7.
The meeting will be Wednesday night at 6 p.m., and will be held at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.
