PORT BARRE - The Army Corps of Engineers has closed the Indian Bayou Area to recreation because of high water.
The recreational area covers 28,500 acres in St. Landry and St. Martin parishes.
Local governments have called mandatory evacuations north and south of the area, which includes all-terrain vehicle and hiking trails. Levee boards have already prohibited access to levees in the area.
The Corps says the area will reopen after the floodwaters go down and local evacuation orders are lifted.
It says that's expected to take several weeks or more.
