Coroner: Infant had old injuries, death ruled homicide
BATON ROUGE - An autopsy revealed the 11-month-girl who died this weekend also had several old injuries, according to the East Baton Rouge Parish coroner.
The coroner's office ruled Aaliyah Heard's death a homicide today, saying the child died from blunt force trauma to the head.
The coroner also noted Heard had "various marks, bruises and abrasions", some of which were recent and others in various stages of healing.
Police said Heard was rushed to the hospital Friday after EMS were contacted and told she was unresponsive. They said she died from her injuries Saturday morning.
Investigators interviewed the family but didn't press charges at the time. Police said today criminal charges were anticipated.
