Coroner identifies man pulled from waterway
GRETNA - The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office has identified the man pulled from a waterway near Lafitte as 22-year-old Ryan Toombs of Marrero.
The Times-Picayune reports an autopsy is being conducted to determine a cause of death.
Officials with the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries recovered Toombs' body about 4:20 p.m. Sunday.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office began searching the Barataria waterway Saturday afternoon after friends of the victim reported him missing.
Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the department, said Toombs jumped from a fast moving boat into water. His friends stopped the craft and one jumped to help but couldn't find him.
