WALKER- It's taken two semesters and hours of work, but the Underwater Robotics Team from Walker High School has finally competed in their first competition.

Members of the team say this was a "learning year," but the six students who showed off their talents are proud of a job well-done.

Walker High School was one of the schools participating in the regional battle of underwater robots in Alabama.

"The competition is organized by MATE," said Eric Turgeau, the robotics class teacher. "Their job is to fund and sponsor these regional competitions, to give high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools a place to build a robot and test it under the base of real research."

This was the first year the robotics class was offered at Walker High. The six students on the team call themselves the "Guinea Pigs," but say they loved every minute of it.

"I originally thought, ‘that seems cool, I'll try that,'" said Justin Miller, a senior on the team. "When I got into it, it was great."

The team got second place in sales representation, but they believe they deserved an "A" for attitude.
