Convicted thief charged with cashing out again
THIBODAUX - Police arrested a Thibodaux man after they said he was caught faking refunds at his job in order to steal money.
Thibodaux Police Chief Scott Silverii said his officers charged Dre Robertson, 21, with felony theft on Monday.
Silverii said investigators were told Robertson had been taking money from the cash registers at his job by racking up fake refunds for customers who didn't exist. In one month, police said he made 27 false returns and pocketed just over $888.
Silverii said one falsified return was for more than $99, which was unusual because Robertson worked at a fast food restaurant.
Officers arrested Robertson as his work and said they learned he had eight prior convictions for theft on his record. They booked him into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center.
