Contents of Mardi Gras Museum to be auctioned
KENNER - The glitter, the glitz, the pageantry and history of Mardi Gras is up for sale to the highest bidder.
The once thriving Mardi Gras Museum, which closed last year as the budget crunch hit Kenner, is putting its varied collection of Mardi Gras memorabilia up for auction Thursday. From towering costumes covered with plumes and faux jewels, to an 1891 Rex invitation - everything goes.
The Mardi Gras Museum suffered from a drop in attendance, and Kenner has been forced to tighten its budget. Bidders will have the chance to acquire costumes, classic invitations to exclusive balls and other items associated with Louisiana's famous festival.
The remaining items from the Toy Train Museum, which closed in 2009 after 25 years, will also be part of the auction.
