BATON ROUGE - Construction work on LSU's Tiger Stadium will bolster the stadium to around a capacity of 100,000 when it's completed before the start of the 2014 season.

Senior Associate Athletic Director Eddie Nunez says it's like giving fans an extra Christmas, and the 2014 season will be much louder in Tiger Stadium.

"It's that aura, that atmosphere, and we wanted to continue to have basically our fans right on top of the field. So I think it's going to really take it to a whole 'nother level," he said.

Fans already know there's no chance of rain in Tiger Stadium, and LSU officials say the construction seen around the stadium won't put a damper on game day either.

"We're not going to take away the fan atmosphere. That was one of the things we have to make sure we do our part to make sure everybody out there has a wonderful experience, and that's what LSU is all about. Our goal is to make sure Tiger Stadium's around for the next 100 years and it still has the impact that it had when it was first built," said Nunez.

While some may worry that the expansion will never be ready on time, LSU says it's right on schedule.

"The contractor is actually working to get ahead especially as we go into football season with the understanding that there is going to be some starting and stopping because of our football home games, so they're doing their best to get ahead in certain areas," said Nunez.

When the construction is complete, Tiger stadium will be the seventh-largest stadium in the nation and the third-largest in the Southeastern Conference. LSU isn't ruling out more enhancements in the future to keep up with the competition.
