Company: levees being repaired, more vents planned around sinkhole
BAYOU CORNE- Texas Brine, the company blamed for a growing sinkhole in this Assumption Parish bayou community, told residents at a meeting Tuesday night, they'll discuss progress at the site more often with them.
The company talked with people who are concerned about the situation during a community meeting. Representatives said crews are fixing a levee that began to sink around the sinkhole.
Had the levees failed, it would have meant the murky mixture inside the sinkhole would have leaked into the bayou.
Residents also learned there are more relief wells planned for the site.
The sinkhole developed in 2012.
