LAPLACE - People lined the streets of LaPlace to say farewell today to a St. John the Baptist Sheriff's Office deputy killed in the line of duty last week.

Mourners and law enforcement agencies turned out along the funeral procession route to pay their final respects to Jeremy Triche, 27, who died last Thursday in a shootout at a LaPlace trailer park.

Gov. Bobby Jindal and other dignitaries also attended the funeral.

Deputy Brandon Nielsen, 34, was also killed and two other deputies were wounded in that shooting and one earlier the same morning. Seven suspects were arrested in connection with the shootings, including two the Southern Poverty Law Center said have ties to the "sovereign citizens" movement.

Nielsen's visitation is scheduled for tomorrow evening in Metairie, and his funeral is scheduled for Wednesday.

News 2's Rob Krieger was in LaPlace for the funeral and will have more reaction from the community tonight.
