Committee to hear breakaway school district bill
BATON ROUGE - The Senate Finance Committee scheduled a hearing this morning for another attempt to create a breakaway school district in southeast Baton Rouge.
The bill, filed by Sen. Mack "Bodi" White, is similar to the measure which failed to get the necessary two-thirds majority in the last legislative session.
Supporters said they've learned from their mistakes, and are confident the bill will pass this session. Critics claim the breakaway district in the Shenandoah area would be predominately white and hurt the East Baton Rouge School District's finances.
News 2's Rob Krieger will developments from the hearing tonight starting at 5 p.m.
