BATON ROUGE- The website for the public transit system here is not working because of snafu over passwords and credentials.

The site's contract expired recently, and the worker who set up the payment and authentication systems died. Some of the information needed to renew the contract are not known, so the site was shutdown.

It's the latest debacle for Capital Area Transit. In July, two board members resigned amid a scandal over missing and allegedly stolen money.

The site could be live again in the next few days.
