POMONA CA.- Studying for a bachelor's in beer? Or perhaps a master's in malt?
Those degrees aren't out there yet but more college students are learning to brew craft beer as part of their studies these days.
At California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, students are not just making beer at the college's new Innovation Brew Works. They're also selling it to fellow students at the microbrewery's cafe.
Cal Poly officials believe their campus is the first in the U.S. to offer such a total immersion in beer studies.
But perhaps not for long.
Colorado State University, which offers a degree in fermentation science, is also looking into selling its own beer.
Industry officials say the growing academic interest in beer is driven in part by increased consumer demand for craft beer.
