Cold hoax doesn't cut Ouachita school attendance
MONROE- A Ouachita Parish School System spokeswoman says attendance appears normal in spite of an online hoax saying cold would close schools on Monday.
Aline Smead says Superintendent Bob Webber and attorneys are discussing whether to ask police to investigate the fake notice posted Sunday on social media sites.
She says someone apparently kept and edited a screenshot of the system's website from February, when bad weather did close schools.
Smead says a principal called Webber's attention to it just as she got a call asking whether school was canceled. Since she's responsible for such announcements, she knew it was phony.
She posted a correction on the system's website and notified the media.
