Close vote seen on background checks on gun buyers

WASHINGTON - Sponsors of a bipartisan Senate proposal to expand background checks for gun buyers say this week's expected vote is too close to call.

Arizona Republican John McCain, whose home state experienced the Tucson 2011 rampage that wounded then-Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, says a lot more needs to be done in the area of mental health.

Right now only three Republican senators are expected to vote for the compromise bill.
