CLINTON- Shocking allegations of wrongdoing surfaced today in East Feliciana Parish surrounding the Mayor's race.

However, many of those allegations are just pranksters getting on telephones and causing trouble, according to Police Chief Eddie Stewart.

"This morning, I was at work and got a call saying I would be picked up on bribery charges," Mayoral Candidate Lori Ann Bell said.

Stewart is also aware of the allegations.  The Secretary of State Election Compliance Unit was also called in, which could not find any evidence of wrongdoing. That's still not stopping some from getting on the telephone and causing problems, according to Stewart.

"I think I got two or three phone calls like that," Stewart said. "I don't know who's starting these rumors. Ms. Bell is not under investigation has not been under investigation. There's no reason for me to have an arrest warrant for her."

Don Reason is running for a second term as mayor.  He also heard the rumors.

"I got the same phone call saying she had been arrested already, and I said, 'What?'" Reason said.

Investigators continue looking into the alleged wrongdoing.  However, there aren't any witnesses who want to come forward and give statements.

Meanwhile, the candidates want the attacks to stop and believe they have want it takes to make Clinton thrive.

The town of Clinton we're dead here," Bell said. "We need growth here."

"I want another term in office to continue what I'm doing," Reason said.

The election is December 8.
