Clinton man dead after crash and car in flames on Rist Road
EAST FELICIANA - The East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Department and Louisiana State Police are conducting an investigation of a fatal crash that occurred on Rist Road on Sunday afternoon.
East Feleiciana Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash around 6: 45 p.m. when 30-year-old Jasmine Matthews of Clinton was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe east on Rist Road. For unknown reasons Matthews lost control of his truck, veered off the road and struck a tree causing Mattews to lose consciousness.
The truck remained locked after the crash and caught fire while Matthews was still inside, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Upon emergency crews’ arrival, the truck was completely engulfed in flames and Mattews died at the scene.
According to the sheriff’s office, Matthews was not wearing his seat belt before the crash and it is unknown if impairment was a factor.
An autopsy is pending to determine if the crash or the fire caused Matthews’ death. According to the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office, the crash remains under investigation.
