Clemens lawyer again attacks key witness
WASHINGTON - Roger Clemens' lawyers have mounted one final assault on the witness who claims he injected the former pitcher with performance-enhancing drugs.
Attorney Rusty Hardin told the jury during closing arguments Tuesday that "saying that Brian McNamee lies zero times is kind of like calling the Grand Canyon a ditch."
McNamee is Clemens' longtime strength coach. He was the only witness over 26 days of testimony to claim firsthand knowledge of Clemens' using steroids and human growth hormone.
Earlier, prosecutor Gil Guerrero painted Clemens as someone who "chose to lie" when Clemens told Congress in 2008 that he had never used those substances.
Guerrero conceded that McNamee is a "flawed man" but said that it was Clemens who later "tossed him by the wayside."
