BATON ROUGE- A plan that involves laying off dozens of IT workers in the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has been defeated.
Members of the Civil Service Commission complained about a lack of information from DHH to make a decision. The move included privatizing most of the information technology work and transferring control to the University of New Orleans.
Opponents say the move would save move and make the department more efficient. A lawyer for the IT workers says it is hard to determine where the savings are in billions of dollars in private contracts signed by the state.
