ZACHARY- A peddler got caught when they knocked on the door of the police chief in this East Baton Rouge Parish town.
The chief said the salesman came calling at 8:30 one evening and is now joining an effort with other townspeople to put a stop to the annoyance. They are pushing for tighter regulations.
Currently, door-to-door salespeople are supposed to have a permit. But, out-of-state companies are taking advantage of a loophole in the law and getting a permit for one person but sending as many as twenty workers into the city.
There are laws governing the business in numerous communities across the area. Since this summer, 14 have been arrested for illegal door-to-door solicitation.
