State legislative auditors found some discrepancies in the City of St. Gabriel's financial paper work.
Among other things, the city failed to update its books for the past year. The mayor also let the city clerk sign checks drawn on the city's account.
The issue that jumped out at the auditors was apparent misuse of state and federal grant dollars. Auditors had a difficult time finding documents showing employees had actually worked the time they were paid for. They also found much of the pay received from the grant hadn't been taxed.
Auditors say no crime was committed, and they expect St. Gabriel to work to have the mess cleared up.
