SOMERSET, KY - A town in Kentucky has come up with a unique way to help its citizens save at the pump.

City leaders of Somerset were hearing complaints from residents about rising gas prices, so they took action and bought a gas station. The city-run gas station is the first of its kind in the United States.

Since the station opened for business Saturday, fuel prices have dropped all across town. The average is now $3.36/gallon, down from $3.76. That gives Somerset the second-lowest prices in Kentucky.

The Baton Rouge area also currently averages around $3.36/gallon, but there are some stations with fuel prices of $3.30 or less.
