City of Plaquemine may get new power contract
News 2 has learned the City of Plaquemine is moving closer to approving an interim power agreement with NRG Energy.
Currently, Plaquemine receives power from the Louisiana Energy and Power Authority (LEPA). If the agreement is approved, the city could save up to two million dollars on their electricity costs.
The agreement comes after dozens of residents protested their high bills last year. Some bills were as high as $1,000.
The Board of Selectmen will decide whether to approve the agreement next week.
