City leaders sign recall against colleagues
GONZALES- City leaders took a stand against their colleagues Wednesday, signing a petition to recall two members of the city council.
Mayor Barney Arceneaux, councilmen Kenny Matassa and Kirk Boudreaux and Police Chief Sherman Jackson signed the form to set a recall vote that could oust councilmen Timothy Vessel and Gary Lacombe. Vessel and Lacombe are two members of a three-person voting bloc that has blocked city government moves for most of the summer.
"[Arceneaux, Matassa, Boudreaux and Jackson] and are putting a lot on the line tonight," petition organizer Chuck LeBlanc said. "But, they believe in the City of Gonzales. They want what is best for the city."
Vessel and Lacombe have not said much about the recall petition. Often, they storm out of council meetings and refuse to answer questions.
The recall is expected to be on the December ballot.
