Children playing with lighter blamed for apartment fire
BATON ROUGE- Firefighters believe children playing with a lighter likely caused an apartment fire Wednesday evening.
Units from the St. George and Baton Rouge city fire departments responded to the blaze off Gardere, on Rush Avenue. The first crews on the scene reported seeing fire and smoke coming from a second floor window.
It took firefighters only a matter of minutes to get the fire under control, but it had already spread to the attic of four-plex.
Fire and smoke damage was contained to the unit where the fire started but others in the building sustained water damage.
Six adults and six children were displaced by the fire.
