Child killed after hit-and-run driver hits house
GRAY - A 2-year-old child was killed and three others were injured early on Friday morning after a truck fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run crashed into a house in Terrebonne Parish.
The initial accident happened on LA 24 when a pickup truck driven by 20-year-old Tony Milligan of Houma rear-ended a sedan driven by 20-year-old Bao Luu. Milligan fled the scene southbound on LA 24 after the crash, according to Louisiana State Police. Authorities reported Luu wasn't hurt in the hit-and-run.
Milligan later lost control of the truck and crashed into a house in Gray, according to LSP.
Brittany and Lance Strickland, along with their 2-year-old child Taylor Strickland, were in the West Main Street house when the truck careened into it at a high rate of speed.
The child was taken to Thibodaux Regional Hospital, but later died from her injuries. Brittany and Lance Strickland were taken to the same hospital where they remain in stable condition, according to authorities on Friday morning.
State police said Milligan, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was also taken to Thibodaux Regional to be treated for minor injuries. Upon Milligan's release from the hospital, he was arrested and booked into Terrebonne Parish Jail on charges of vehicular homicide, careless operation and no seat belt.
Investigators said they suspect alcohol to be a factor in the crash, but await toxicology reports from the LSP Crime Lab.
Louisiana State Police said the crash is still under investigation.
