Child hit by vehicle while walking to school
BATON ROUGE - Police said a young boy is in critical condition in Baton Rouge after a car swerved off the road and hit him while he was walking to school.
Police said it happened around 7:45 a.m. at 4755 Evangeline Street. Officers said a mechanical problem caused the car's driver to lose control of her vehicle, and she hit the boy who was walking along a nearby sidewalk.
EMS took the boy to a local hospital. Police said the driver has not been cited, and the wreck is still under investigation.
Keith Bromery with EBR Schools said the boy was walking to a bus stop when he was hit, and police said he attended Westdale Middle School. Bromery said crisis counselors were brought in to help any students impacted by the morning's events.
