A 5-year-old was taken to the hospital Thursday morning after being hit by a car in Baton Rouge.

Police said the child was attempting to stop an ice cream truck when he ran into the street and was struck by an eastbound vehicle in the 4800 block of Paige Street.

There was no word on the child's condition or if any charges were filed.
