Child dies after being hit by car
BATON ROUGE - Police said a 14-year-old boy hit by a car while walking to a school bus stop in Baton Rouge Wednesday has died.
Investigators said Daytron Edwards was hit while walking on Evangeline Street near North Foster. Police said it appears the car suffered a mechanical problem, which caused the driver to swerve.
Edwards was critically injured and taken to a nearby hospital, then passed away Friday according to BRPD.
Police did not cite the driver at the time of the wreck and said Friday they were still investigating the circumstances leading up to the wreck.
Edwards attended Westdale Middle School according to a district spokesperson. Grief counselors were called in this week to help students impacted by the wreck.
