PLAQUEMINE - Officers are investigating a murder that could be retaliation to a shooting last month.
Plaquemine Police believe Darnell Paige, 39, was shot and killed by a man Monday night on Bourgeois Street.
"He was hit three times," Captain Kenny Payne said.
Six bullets entered the car where Paige was shot. Police say Paige returned fire at least ten times before the driver of the car rushed Paige to police headquarters.
Police believe the same people who killed Paige shot at a house nearby, thinking Paige went home.
"The house on Nats Alley had eleven bullet holes," Payne said. "Fortunately there was no one hit in the house, but unfortunately, there were children in there and they are extremely traumatized as a result of that."
Paige was a suspect in a shooting that happened in October where a man was shot in the leg on the same street where Paige lived.
"It's a possibility [of retaliation]. We are looking at all angles at this point; interviewing as many people as we can. We have a good bit of forensic evidence at this time at the scene. We have two more people of interest we'd like to talk to that we have not gotten a hold of yet," Payne said.
