Authorities say a candidate for Leonville police chief allegedly shot a 20-year-old man during a traffic stop in Arnaudville, where he works as a part-time police officer.
The shooting occurred Sunday following a routine traffic stop.
During the stop, deputies say Officer Dallas Barron III discovered Marlon Rendell Eaglin had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court for a March 2009 misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
Deputies say Eaglin tried to run away and Barron fired at least two shots at Eaglin, striking him in the back of each leg.
Barron has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
