Chemical fire in Slaughter overnight

UPDATE: According to Louisiana State Fire Marshall, Butch Browning, the fire occurred at Monolyte Laboratory on LA 19 near Meadowood Drive in Slaughter a little before 2:00 AM.  It is under control and crews were still working on some hotspots.  The cause of the fire has not been determined.

SLAUGHTER, LA - Several law enforcement agencies along with haz-mat are in Slaughter this morning after a chemical fire overnight. Few details are known, but just before two this morning there were reports of explosions in the area.

Officials on the scene say a fire erupted at a plant off Highway 19, near the East Baton Rouge/East Feliciana Parish line, or near Slaughter. The plant's name is unknown at this time. Voluntary evacuations are underway for residents near the fire, and traffic is being diverted at Pride Port Hudson Road.
