PORT ALLEN - State Police shut down a section of highway in West Baton Rouge Parish after a chemical fire injured one at the facility Monday morning and began releaseing chemicals.
Authorities say the plant Air Liquide at 7425 Hwy 190 West is on fire and releasing Acetylene. They recommend anyone living within a one mile radius to evacuate the area.
Troopers are bringing evacuees to the Erwinville and Port Allen community centers.
The Department of Transportation and Development says US 190 remains closed to traffic in both directions at LA 983, Bueche Rd. Eastbound traffic is being diverted at LA 413 to Rosedale Road.
Westbound traffic is being diverted onto LA 1145 to Rosedale Road.
Troop A advises that the incident command post is now located in the median on US 190 between LA 1145 and Cajun Circus.
Rodney Mallett with the Dept. of Environmental Quality said the fire was reported at 10:25 a.m. at the Air Liquide plant.
News 2 crews are en route and will have more details starting at noon.
