Cheerleader libel suit retrial begins
COVINGTON, KENTUCKY- The lawyer for a former Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader says his client suffered mental anguish from false and malicious posts that say she slept with every Bengals player and had two sexually transmitted diseases. It was part of opening statements in a retrial of the federal libel lawsuit filed by Sarah Jones, who wants $11 million dollars in damages. She sued thedirty.com website for two posts about her in 2009. The lawyer for the website contends evidence will show the site didn't write the posts and they did not damage Jones. The first trial in January resulted in a hung jury. Jones pleaded guilty last year to charges she had sex with an underage ex-student but these posts were unrelated to that.
