Charges upgraded in Angola gate crash
ANGOLA - Sheriff's deputies upgraded charges today against the man accused of crashing into the Angola prison's main gates this weekend to include attempted murder.
A judge set a bond for Floyd Tilliman at $225,000 today. Investigators said they added the charge because he also rammed his vehicle into an Angola officer's car on the levee.
Tilliman also faces charges of criminal damage to property, trespassing, and cruelty to juveniles. Investigators said his two children were in the car with him when he rammed the gates Sunday afternoon.
The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office said Tilliman's vehicle approached the gates and backed away several times before he rammed them, and the guards opened fire on his vehicle when he did. They said Tilliman and the children were not hurt.
Deputies said the children's mother reported them missing along with her husband Saturday to Houma Police. Investigators said Tillman's wife told them he was a paranoid schizophrenic and was off his medication.
