BAKER - The Baker Middle School teacher who was arrested and jailed this past week said she was humiliated by what happened, but is glad to be back in her classroom without a potential criminal case hanging over her head.

"That's the best thing for me, to continue to do what I've always been doing -- that's teaching and educating young minds," Deborah Anderson said Friday after the Baker city prosecutor said charges in the case had been dropped.

Baker City Attorney Kenneth Fabre said evidence in the case, which involved a student who accused Anderson of yanking him out of class because his shirt was untucked, was insufficient to pursue a criminal prosecution.

"This is the official file and I've reviewed impartially and I just don't see it," he said.

Baker Police made the arrest for simple battery at the school after the eighth-grader's mother contacted them.

Baker Chief Mike Knaps said he supports the prosecutor's office "100 percent."

Anderson's attorney, Yigal Bander, said the case was mishandled.

"This has to be addressed," he said.
