HOUMA - Charges have been dropped against three former security officers at the Terrebonne Juvenile Detention Center who had been accused of sexual misconduct with female inmates.

Charges were dropped Tuesday against 37-year-old Chadwick Griffin, 28-year-old John Gathen and 39-year-old Darrin Carter. After a jury trial, 50-year-old Floyd Howard and 25-year-old Darwin Brown were acquitted last week.

Prosecutors say the state had problems with witnesses.

Another former guard - 48-year-old Angelo Vickers - was sentenced to seven years after pleading guilty to molestation. A five-year suspended sentence was handed to 26-year-old Christopher Turner for a guilty plea to malfeasance.

The guards were charged with offering snacks and phone-call privileges in exchange for sex.
