Charges added in elderly abuse case
BATON ROUGE - Baton Rouge Police added charges of manslaughter and obstruction of justice in the case of an elderly relative's death.
Joleslie Looney, 53, and Lauren Looney, 17, are suspects in the death of Bessie Looney, 82. Officials say Bessie was found dead in hear wheelchair Monday in a filthy house and had signs of malnourishment and bad sores across her body.
The charges were added after an infection in the blood stream was determined by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroners Office as the cause of Bessie's death. Police say Joleslie and Lauren also tried to clean the house to make it look like they were taking good care of Bessie.
Joleslie and Lauren were Bessie's primary caregivers and authorities say they knew about her condition but never got medical help.
Both Joleslie and Lauren's bond was set at $100,000 thursday on charges of cruelty to the infirm.
