Changes to LSU rec center after man was groped in shower
BATON ROUGE - There are changes at the LSU Student Recreational Center after someone was sexually assaulted in the men's shower.
On April 16, a male student told police a he was groped by another man while taking a shower.
Last week, police arrested Hung M. Dang, 46, of Baton Rouge and charged him with sexual battery and trespassing since he had no ties to LSU and should not have allowed in UREC.
"We want to make sure we prevent such things from happening again," UREC Director Laurie Braden said.
No one was fired or reprimanded after the incident. But the university is re-training workers on the importance of swiping everyone's campus ID cards and bottlenecking traffic at the facility's entry.
"We had the opportunity to narrow our entry point with some [barriers] and also go back and revisit with our staff the importance of their roll in security as it relates to the use of university recreation," she said.
Braden believes Dang knew exactly when he could get in unnoticed.
"We have extremely busy times in the evening," she said, "and an individual was able to look for a weakness and take advantage of that weakness."
