Change smoke detector batteries when setting clocks forward Saturday

BATON ROUGE – Firefighters in Baton Rouge want to remind residents that the start of daylight savings time is the perfect time to check batteries smoke detectors.

Daylight savings time officially starts at 2 a.m. Sunday March 12. The Baton Rouge Fire Department says it is always good practice to replace smoke detector batteries after setting your clocks forward an hour on Saturday night.

“If there is a fire in your home, a working smoke detector can increase your chance of survival by more than 50 percent,” BRFD says. “Please take the time to inspect your smoke detectors.”
