Central Thruway opens to traffic
CENTRAL - The long awaited Central Thruway is now open cutting the drive in half to I-12.
The three-mile stretch connects Sullivan Road in Central to O'Neal Lane in Baton Rouge giving drivers easier access to I-12.
The thruway was in the works since 1997 and cost about $65 million. It took four years to complete and opened today about three months ahead of schedule.
"It will definitely build it up and more people will come to Central. It will benefit us. I think it's really nice. A really nice investment that we have," said Marian Schopp.
It took drivers about 20 minutes using the old route to get to I-12. That route consist of using Greenwell Springs Road to S. Flannery down Choctaw Road.
