Central rallying for coach
CENTRAL - The City of Central is rallying in support for Central High School football coach Mike Gardner.
A petition, signed by over 250 supporters against Central Community School System, reads "Keep Mike Gardner as a coach!"
Gardner is no longer coaching at Central High. He was an assistant football coach.
Some who have signed the petition believe it was because Gardner is part owner of a daiquiri bar.
Zakk Evans was a starting running back at Central High.
"Coach Gardner was definitely the leader of that team," said Evans.
Superintendent Michael Faulk says this is a "personnel matter," and did not wish to comment further.
Faulk did release a letter to News Two that states Principal Wales will be reassigned from his position and responsibilities effective July 1, 2013. His new responsibilities include overseeing ACT testing and the school's advanced placement program.
