CENTRAL- Central leaders are hoping a new city hall project will help create a new identity for the city.
The current city hall location is inside a shopping center near the corner of Sullivan Road and Hooper Road.
The state bond commission is scheduled to vote on a list of construction projects supported by Governor Bobby Jindal. The list includes $150,000 for the city hall plans, as well as funding for a sports park complex in Central.
Mayor Mac Brown says the money may be used for architectural plans or the purchase of land. Brown says initial plans call for a community center, with space for most city offices and a park. Mayor Brown would also like to see nearby land used for retail and attractions like restaurants and a movie theater.
Possible locations for the complex include the old middle school grounds.
The bond commission will vote on the projects later this week.
