Celebrate New Year's Eve in the Big Easy
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A New Orleans brass band will kick off a series of free New Year's Eve music performances in Jackson Square.
New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu says the city's New Year's Eve festivities begin at 9 p.m. with a performance by the Lagniappe Brass Band, followed by My Name Is John Michael.
Shamar Allen and the Underdogs will close out the musical entertainment leading up to the countdown to 2012.
The celebration is free and open to the public.
It will include a "fleur de lis drop" from a 25-foot pole atop the Jax Brewery as midnight nears.
There will also be a fireworks display staged from the Mississippi River and choreographed to New Orleans music.
The festivities are produced by the Crescent City Countdown Club.
