Celebrate accomplishments of Louisiana women at LSU Women's Center
BATON ROUGE - Over the weekend, the world celebrated International Women's Day. The celebration continues next week at a special event hosted by the LSU Women's Center.
2015 Esprit de Femme Awards and Sunrise Celebration is Thursday, March 19th from 7:30 - 9 a.m. at the Renaissance Hotel (7000 Bluebonnet Blvd.) in Baton Rouge.
The event is the LSU Women's Center's keystone event for Women's History Month.
"We are honoring 8 women across Louisiana who have made contributions to improving the lives of women in our state," Summer Steib explained this morning on 2une In.
West Baton Rouge Parish Associate Superintendent Annette Mire has been involved with the celebration for years. She was among those recognized last year.
"It really is a significant honor for women because it validates the work that we've done toward those initiatives that support women, not only in the workplace but in the community as well," she told News 2's Kylie Dixon. "
Both Steib and Mire believe it's important for young women to see others honored this way.
"I think when we talk about women and you hear stories about women, so often it's negative things," Steib opines. "Louisiana has consitenly ranked in the bottom of national rankings looking at the quality of life for women, leadership of women (and) advancement of women."
If you're interested in attending the 2015 Esprit de Femme Awards and Sunrise Celebration, contact the LSU Women's Center at (225) 578-1714 or email@example.com. The event is nearly sold out, so you need to contact them ASAP to get your hands on the limited number of remaining tickets.
