Caught on camera: drivers ignore traffic laws on dangerous street
BATON ROUGE - Neighbors are concerned their road is turning into a speedway for drivers.
While filming a story on the dangers of Victoria Drive, a WBRZ News 2 camera caught a car speeding through a stop sign. People who live on the street, near the intersection with Prescott Road, say drivers make it dangerous.
"They barely even stop for [the stop sign]," said Jonathan Lamotte. "They run right through it, already have had a few accidents already."
Last week, a car speeding down Victoria lost control. Three people were hurt when they were thrown from the vehicle as it crashed into a yard. Everyone survived, but neighbors say it's proof something needs be bone before there is a deadly crash.
"People aren't paying attention," said Jessie Springer.
There is only one speed limit sign along Victoria Dr., posted at the beginning of the road, off Airline Hwy.
Department of Public Works said there is no law requiring a certain number of speed limit signs on local roads. People who live on the street want more signs or more speed enforcement.
