BATON ROUGE- Two cats and iguana were rescued from a burning home late Thursday evening.

Fire fighters said a person called for help when their laundry room filled with smoke and erupted into flames in the 6400 block of Government Street.

"The resident stated she saw smoke shortly after starting the dryer. Fire fighters arrived on scene to find the laundry room engulfed in flames," a fire department spokesperson said in a news release.

Investigators believe an electrical malfunction caused the fire.

"Fire fighters were able to save three family pets from the home," the spokesperson said.

Red Cross was called to assist the residents.
