CATS board candidate has criminal conviction
BATON ROUGE- At least one city leader is raising a red flag about a candidate for an available seat on the board of directors of the bus system here.
William Johnson pleaded guilty to felony attempted theft and conspiracy to commit fraud related to donations to DARE programs in East Baton Rouge Parish in 2009.
Johnson is up for the board position and Metro Councilman John Delgado believes that is unacceptable, considering recent scandals involving Capital Area Transit.
Recently, the system has dealt with allegations that a former board member used bus system money to pay his bills. Then, it was uncovered $100,000 went missing from bus fare boxes.
