CATS announces new route to hospital
BATON ROUGE - The Capital Area Transit System confirmed today they're adding a new route directly to Woman's Hospital in Baton Rouge.
The closest stop for the bus system before now was at Siegen Lane and Industriplex Blvd., about a 45 minute walk away from the hospital.
"I don't believe I can really express in words my level of excitement for this actually coming into fruition and knowing that the families, the women, the children, who need the services here, can now have that access by bus ride," said State Representative Regina Barrow.
Rep. Barrow made the trek from the previous stop to the hospital in January.
CATS leaders also announced a service that will take discharged patients with no way home to the nearest stop, as well as a route that stops at Women's, Our Lady of the Lake, and the Baton Rouge General and Oschner facilities on Bluebonnet.
"With the changes in healthcare, in North Baton Rouge in particular, it's always nice to be able to adapt and accommodate the needs of the ridership in Baton Rouge," said CATS President Bob Mirabito.
That service will take riders from those hospitals to the Mall of Louisiana, and will run seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The new route to and from Women's Hospital runs five days a week, 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. It begins today.
